3 Things I Learned After Self-Publishing My First Book
It all feels like common sense in hindsight, but you can only see clearly when vision is 20/20.
In July of 2018, I self-published my debut collection of poetry, which I entitled evergreen. Please excuse my not-very-subtle plug, but if you’re interested in giving it a go, my book can be purchased on Amazon.
Anyway, back on track…
I self-published via Amazon’s free tool that, at the time, was called CreateSpace. Nowadays, it’s known as Kindle Direct Publishing, or KDP.
It was the smoothest process of all time, especially for little ole me who hadn’t the slightest clue as to how to format a book on my own. The ease at which creating my own book unfolded was magnificent, and as much as I side-eye at Amazon, I will say that the process is excellent for beginners.
There aren’t any fees upfront… Or at all, really. Until you order proofs, but even then, they are far cheaper than you’d expect. But despite the fluid motions of the publishing process, there were three pickles I found myself in after I finalized my poetry collection.
