i feel as though

no matter where i go

my footsteps lead me

somewhere dangerous.

i wonder where

you are supposed to turn

when every direction

feels like a challenge.

i don’t want

to face off in a duel

with all the people i meet,

but even the closest

friendships i make

result in a

deafening defeat.
