Member-only story
no, no, no — just go.
a poem about how parents who’ve left yet won’t leave you alone.
i apply for a job
and they tell me no.
i ask why
and they say just go.
i find out later
that i was denied
because my linkedin
isn’t easy on the eyes
but it’s hard
to have online profiles
that state where you reside
and list out all the places
you’ve ever worked
when you have a parent
who tries to find you
by way of online info
that allowed him to
contact you
via email.
he asked me to reach out
and i made sure to bite my tongue
because a reply to him would be
magic to his ears.
though i never responded, i still
wake up in cold sweats screaming
no, no, no —
just go.
