no one cares about high school after you graduate.
so please don’t listen to teachers who don’t believe in you.
for high school, i attended a quite rigorous all-girls academy. i remember one of my english teachers in particular because she did not believe in me.
see, no matter how closely i abided by her preferred essay structures and style of writing, she awarded me no better than a C every time.
i could never win with her.
she even went so far as to inform me that i would never excel in the art of writing, and she expressed her opinion that i should not pursue english as a major in college, which had been my plan from the beginning.
so i listened to her,
until i didn’t.
it’s been awhile since i sat in her classroom, but can you take a guess as to my profession? i am a writer and an editor,
and the most exquisite part of all is that i didn’t pursue an english major.
i dropped out of college and pursued my love of language instead.
and here i am, excelling in the art of writing. ☽
