we’re all just trying to get by.

a poem in paragraph form.

i used to live my life with a constant mentality of eye on the prize. i’d fixate so intensely on tomorrow as a way of dissociating from today. i was coping and hoping that one day, survival mode would not be my automatic state of mind. it’s been ten years since escaping the place that wrecked havoc upon my headspace but i’m not yet in my prime because undoing it all requires time. take yours but don’t keep scores. we’re all just trying to get by.
