a poem about the parallel between those who are abused and those who abuse.

i find the relationship between

those who are abused and

those who abuse

to parallel everything

that occurs in nature.

perpetrators turn on victims

as though they are the perp’s traitors.

have you ever stayed in a forest

long enough to watch what happens

when a shrew mouse scuttles too near

the hole of a python?

mama mamba swallows prey

before allowing it to scurry away,

as if she has the authority to decide

who gets to escape unscathed.

we call people snakes

when they betray moral code

but who drafts the book of ethics?

the charmers.

the venomous.

the poisonous.
